Jakarta – The Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) wishes the Polri (National Police) a happy 79th anniversary and will continue to encourage improvements and reforms to the police of the Republic of Indonesia so that they are professionals who firmly uphold the Constitution as a state institution that fully guarantees the principles of a democratic constitutional state, and guarantees respect, protection and the fulfilment of human rights (the constitutional rights of citizens) without becoming a tool of power and capital.

On its 79th anniversary, the National Police took up the theme "The National Police with the People". The National Police Public Relations Division distributed a public service advertisement using artificial intelligence (AI) depicting a winged police officer helping the community. In the video, the National Police stated that "The police are modern heroes". "Without a robe, without the spotlight, they stand at the forefront, protecting the community from all forms of crime and danger." When compared to everyday reality however, this image is ironic because in fact is that the police along with those in power and owners of capital are often the actors who violate the rights of the ordinary people.

Jakarta – The Indonesian Communion of Churches (PGI) has condemned the forced disbandment by local residents of activities at a Christian student retreat in Cidahu, Sukabumi, West Java.

"The PGI condemns the intolerance actions accompanied by terror and violence against religious activities that occurred in Cidahu, Sukabumi, West Java", PGI General Secretary Darwin Darmawan said in a statement on Monday June 30.

Jayapura – A series of terror acts have again befallen Papuan students who are studying in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya.

The students are asking that the latest spate of incidents – the sending of a live lizard, provocative chats and the putting up of posters against Papuan students in Surabaya – be immediately and fully investigated.

Hammam Izzuddin, Suseno, Jakarta – The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) has provided three critical notes for the National Police (Polri) ahead of its 79th anniversary or Bhayangkara Day on July 1.

Kontras believes that the National Police need to make serious internal improvements. "The police are still ranked first as the institution that commits the most acts of torture", said Kontras Deputy Coordinator for External Affairs Andrie Yunus on Saturday June 28.
