Anggi Sagita, Jayapura – United Nations Special Rapporteur for the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, Albert Kwokwo Barume, personally heard the heartfelt cries of Papuan indigenous peoples (OAP) during an informal two-day visit to Jayapura, Papua Province on July 4-5.

Barume empathised with and recorded each statement and report submitted by representatives of indigenous peoples in the land of Papua. "I'm saddened too over what's happening here [in the land of Papua] because it is a violation of human rights or HAM", Barume said.

This was discovered on March 17 during a meeting between Hamid and House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad and several leaders of the DPR's Commission I.

Banda Aceh – A number of residents from the Aceh People's Alliance have opposed and challenged the establishment of Territorial Development Battalions in five areas and have asked the Indonesian Army (TNI AD) to return the management of the Blang Padang land donated for religious use (wakaf) to the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque.

They believe that the construction of the new battalions in Nagan Raya, Pidie, Gayo Lues, Central Aceh and East Aceh regencies violates the provisions of the 2005 Helsinki Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). One of the points in the MoU is that the number of organic TNI personnel in Aceh is limited to only 14,700 troops.

This is tied to the history rewriting project initiated by the government through the Ministry of Culture under the leadership of the Minister of Culture Fadli Zon. The polemic began following a media interview in which Zon said there was no evidence of violence against women, specifically mass rapes during the 1998 affair.
