Ardito Ramadhan, Jakarta – The Corruption Eradication Commission Candidate Leadership Monitoring Coalition believes that President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ignored public input by going ahead and submitting the 10 candidate leadership names proposed by the KPK leadership selection committee to the House of Representatives (DPR).

“This means that the president agrees with the results of the work of the selection committee which has earlier been widely criticised. Of course this leads to only on conclusion, what indicator is the president using in choosing the KPK candidate leaders”, said Indonesian Corruption Watch (ICW) researcher and member of the Monitoring Coalition Kurnia Ramadhana on the evening of Wednesday September 4.

Ramadhana said that the president must pay attention to two indicators in choosing the names of candidate KPK leaders which will be submitted to the DPR.

The first indicator, said Ramadhana, is integrity.

According to Ramadhana, it is as if the president has ignored the issue of integrity because he has allowed KPK leadership candidates to slip through who have not submitted State Official Wealth Reports (LHKPN).

“If it is found that there are those who have been remiss in their LHKPN but the president has still let them through then of course the public will ask: Aren’t LHKPNs something that’s important to president Joko Widodo?”, said Ramadhana.

The second indicator is the track record of KPK leadership candidates.

Ramadhana said that the public expects the next crop of KPK leaders to be figures that have never been indicted for crimes or committed ethical violations in the past.

“Put simply, how is it possible for a problematic figures to be able to lead an anti-corruption institution which up until now has been leading the fight to eradicate corruption”, asked Ramadhana.

Ramadhana also warned the president that he has pledged to oppose a weak state by reforming the law enforcement system so that it is free from corruption, dignified and trusted.

Ramadhana is of the opinion that in the last days of the administration of President Widodo and Vice President Jusuf Kalla they should be able to prove to the people that they support the fight against corruption.

Widodo has already sent a recommendation letter containing 10 names of candidate KPK leaders to the DPR. DPR Secretary General Indra Iskandar claims to have received the recommendation on Wednesday afternoon September 4.

Iskandar said that the 10 names in the document are exactly the same as the names announced by the KPK candidate leadership selection committee.

Meaning that President Widodo did not make any changes to the names proposed by the selection committee.
