Vitorio Mantalean, Jakarta – A number of political parties that failed to pass the electoral verification process to take part in the 2024 elections have joined together under the "Movement Against Political Genocide" to call for a halt to the current stage in the election process.

They are accusing the General Election Commission (KPU) of cheating after it failed to pass them during the registration and administrative verification stages.

The majority of the parties in the movement are those that failed to pass the registration stage on August 15, namely the Masyumi Party, the Unity for a People's Independent Nation (Perkasa), the Indonesian Sovereign Country Party (Pandai), the People's Sovereignty Party (PKR), the Reform Party (PR), the National Integrationist Party (PPB) and the Working Party (Berkarya), along with the One Republic Party (PRS) and the People's Justice and Prosperity Party (PRIMA), which passed the registration stage but not the administrative verification on October 14.

"[We are] asking the KPU to stop the election stage process that is currently taking place", said Masyumi Party Chairperson and head of the movement, Ahmad Yani, in a statement sent to Kompas.com on Thursday December 22.

Ahmad Yani and his colleagues believe that all of the national level KPU commissioners are unprofessional, dishonest and not independent. Therefore on Thursday they reported all of the national commissioners to the Election Organisers Ethics Council (DKPP).

Aside PRIMA and the PRS, the other parties in the movement have already sued the KPU for administrative violations. The Election Supervisory Body (Bawaslu) however declared that their suit was not legally or convincingly proven.

"[We] urge all parties, particularly the DPR [House of Representatives] and the government to form an independent team to investigate the 2024 election process stages by conducting an audit starting from the planning stage, the political party registration process through to the determination of the political parties", said Yani.

In addition to this, they are also asking Indonesian police chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo to intervene.

Begrudging the Ummat Party

Specifically, the movement is taking up the issue of the failure to publish an official report or KPU decision on the political parties that failed to pass the registration stage.

Although KPU Regulation Number 4/2022 does indeed regulate this, they believe that this has obstructed them in submitting a dispute with Bawaslu because the object of the dispute must be a decision or official report published by the KPU.

Yani and his colleagues also touched on the good fortune of the Ummat Party that was given the opportunity for re-verification even though it did not pass the factual verification stage.

The opportunity was given to the Ummat Party after reaching an agreement with the KPU during a mediation forum at Bawaslu.

"Different treatment was afforded to the Ummat Party which had only just been declared to have failed the factual verification. This kind of treatment clearly shows that the KPU's work is unprofessional, dishonest and unfair", said Yani.

"Truly it was unfair treatment and damaged our constitutional rights", he reiterated.
