Singgih Wiryono, Ardito Ramadhan, Jakarta – The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has revealed that reports of violence against women throughout 2024 increased compared to the previous year.
"Throughout January to December 2024, 35,533 reports of violence against women were recorded, a 2.4 percent increase from the previous year", said Komnas Perempuan Deputy Chairperson Dahlia Madanih during in a press conference at the Royal Kuningan Hotel in Jakarta on Tuesday August 19.
Madanih said the data on increasing violence showed two sides, namely on one hand victims are increasingly open to reporting, and the other hand, the challenges and substance of protection are increasing.
Meanwhile the victims were found in all age groups, starting from children and teenagers with 46.38 percent, and young women and adults with 41.10 percent.
"And its spread across all educational backgrounds, especially high school graduates (33 percent). In terms of activity, the majority of victims are students (40.26 percent), followed by working women (19.47 percent) and housewives (18.86 percent)", she said.
That the violence occurs in all sectors shows that schools, homes and places of work, which should be places of refuge, are actually vulnerable to violence.
Due to the massive data on violence, Komnas Perempuan, together with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), and the Service Provision Forum, continue to collaborate to collect joint data related to violence occurring in the country.
"This report will serve as material for formulating policies, coordinating case handling, and fighting for the fulfilment of women's human rights in Indonesia", said Madanih.
