Makassar – The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) says that the court hearings into the Paniai gross human rights violations in Papua, which are taking place at the Makassar District Court in South Sulawesi, are nothing more than a formality.

There has never been democracy for the Papuan people. Repression accompanied by violence has again been committed by security forces and reactionary ormas (mass or social organisation) against Papuan students in Bali.

Jonh Roy Purba, Jayapura – The Morning Star independence flag and the flag of the pro-independence West Papua National Committee (KNPB) was flown when the body of West Papua activist Filep Jacob Samuel Karma was taken to be buried on Wednesday November 2. The two flags were flown in the midst of the crowd of Karma's sympathisers.

Jakarta – Amnesty International Indonesia Executive Director Usman Hamid is urging the government to investigate the cause of Filep Karma's death. The call was made after the Papua activist was found dead on Base G Beach in Jayapura on Tuesday November 1.

Jayapura – The witnesses testimonies by Polri (Indonesian police officers) that were presented during the hearings into the 2014 Paniai massacre case at the Makassar District Court in South Sulawesi on Wednesday September 28, reinforce the grounds for the Attorney General and the court not to just prosecute a single defendant.

Singgih Wiryono, Jakarta – Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) Coordinator Fatia Maulidiyanti is asking the government to open access to information on the violence happening in Papua, and that the government stop hiding up this information, especially from the international community.

Singgih Wiryono, Jakarta – Papua Legal Aid Foundation (LBH) Director Emanuel Gobay is urging the National Human Rights Commission (Komnas HAM) to declare the murder and mutilation of four civilians in Mimika, Papua, as a gross human rights violation.
