Fabiola Dianira, Denpasar – A demonstration in front of the Bali Regional Police Headquarters (Mapolda), which ended in chaos, has now shifting to the Bali Regional House of Representatives (DPRD).
That demonstration also grew heated when the protesters began to throw stones and tried to set two police cars on fire.
According to Detik Bali's observations at the location on Saturday August 30, initially there were only five pecalang (traditional Balinese security guards) and a number of soldiers on guard in front of the Bali DPRD building. At around 5.45, several police vehicles tried to enter the DPRD grounds but two were trapped in the middle of the increasing large crowd.
The demonstrators immediately threw stones at the police vehicle and vandalised the trapped cars by writing "1312" on them – the numerical format of ACAB (All cops are bastards). Not only that, the protesters also threw firecrackers, broke the windshield then tried to set fire to the vehicle.
Although the fire took hold on the front of the police car, officers managed to extinguish it before it could spread.
As of posting this article, the demonstration was still continuing and growing more chaotic than before. No speeches was heard from the participants involved. (dpw/dpw)
