Rolando Fransiscus Sihombing, Jakarta – President Prabowo Subianto has said that the current situation is chaotic and that it is leading towards makar (treason, subversion, rebellion) and terrorism. He has requested that the perpetrators be dealt with firmly.
"Once again, the pure aspirations being conveyed must be respected. The right to gather peacefully must be respected and protected. But we cannot deny that symptoms have begun to appear that there are actions outside of the law, even against the law, and some even leading to makar and terrorism", Prabowo said at a press conference at the State Palace in Jakarta on Sunday August 31, 2025.
Prabowo has gave orders to the National Police (Polri) and the Indonesian Military (TNI) to take whatever firm action is necessary, namely to act against those damaging property and looting.
"To the police and the TNI, I order you to take an appropriate action against all forms of destruction of public facilities, the looting of individual homes, or public places, or economic centres", he asserted. "In accordance with prevailing laws", he added.
Prabowo again warned the public that they can convey genuine aspirations peacefully and gave assurances that they will be heard and noted.
"To all members of the public, please convey genuine aspirations peacefully. We will make sure that it will be heard, will be noted, and we will follow it up", he said.
As has been reported, all leaders of political parties who have seats in the House of Representatives (DPR) were present at the State Palace. They accompanied President Prabowo in conveying information related to the latest situation.
On Sunday Prabowo held a press conference on the state of the nation and made a public statement after holding a meeting with all political party leaders, including Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chairperson Megawati Sukarnoputri.
