Adhfar Aulia Syuhada, Jakarta – Workers and students held a demonstration in front of the United States Embassy in Central Jakarta on Tuesday January 6 in which they demanded the US release Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.
Detik.com observed at the location that the Jakarta-based Islamic Student Association (HMI) Cadre Alliance arrived first in front of the US Embassy followed by other groups.
Several speakers took turns delivering speeches from a command vehicle. Others carried banners and posters expressing support for Venezuela.
The protesters demanded the release of President Maduro and an end to the US military offensive against Venezuela.
"We believe that this action that was carried out by President Donald Trump irreparably damages international law and suppresses all human rights in Venezuela. It was deeply regrettable behaviour when President Donald Trump carried out military aggression against Venezuela", said HMI speaker Ali Loilatu.
The demonstrators hope that Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto will express his disapproval of the US's actions. They also hope Prabowo will join in urging the US to release Maduro.
"We hope the President of the Republic of Indonesia will then issue a statement, also taking a stand on this war for it to then be halted and reinstating the Venezuelan President", said Loilatu. (haf/haf)
