Jakarta – Human Rights activist Veronica Koman has confirmed reports that there was communication between herself and the West Papua National Committee (KNPB) chairperson for the Merauke region known by the initials EKM.

EKM was arrested by police on June 9 on charges of allegedly spreading fake news (hoaxes) of a provocative nature and smacking of ethnic, religious, racial and inter-group (SARA) hostility on his personal Facebook account in the name of Manuel Metemko.

Maria Baru, Jayapura – Papua Legal Aid Foundation (LBH) Director Emanuel Gobay is asking the Papua regional police (Polda) to immediately transfer Victor Yeimo from the Mobile Brigade Command Headquarters (Mako Brimob) detention centre to the Polda Papua detention centre.

The call was made because Yeimo's rights as a suspect are not being met and are being complicated by the Mako Brimob's standard operating procedures (SOP) and internal regulations.

SM Said, Jayapura – The Nemangkawi Cyber Ops Task Force have arrested the owner of a Facebook account in the name of Manuel Metemko for allegedly spreading fake information or hoaxes and inciting hatred or ethnic, religious, racial and inter-group (SARA) hostility between individuals or social groups.

Metemko is the chairperson of Merauke district branch of the National Committee of West Papua (KNPB) which is a wing of and is affiliated with the West Papua National Liberation Army-Free Papua Organisation (TPNPB-OPM).

Jakarta – The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) has recorded that 938 demonstrators have been arrested on the grounds of violating health protocols since the corona virus (Covid-19) pandemic began early last year.

Kontras also found 300 cases of alleged violence suffered by demonstrators protesting during the Covid-19 pandemic.
