Jakarta – A clash broke out on Wednesday March 27 when two groups of demonstrators were protesting at the Horse Statue in Central Jakarta as the Constitutional Court (MK) was holding a hearing challenging the results of the 2024 elections.

Initially, the group of protesters supporting Anies Baswedan and Muhaimin Iskandar – one of the loosing presidential election tickets – approached the other demonstrators. Suddenly the two groups began throwing mineral water bottles and stones at each other.

Jakarta – The commander of the Cenderawasih/XVII Regional Military Command (Kodam), Major General Izak Pangemanan, has revealed the chronology of the abuse committed by TNI (Indonesian military) soldiers against a member of an armed criminal group (KKB) in Central Papua.

Pangemanan said that the incident took place on February 3, 2024. Initially, there were three KKB members who allegedly wanted to burn down a community healthcare center (Puskesmas) in Puncak regency, Central Papua.

Diamanty Meiliana, Jakarta – The Humanitarian Coalition for Papua is urging the government to hold an investigation into the torture of a Papuan civilian by members of the TNI (Indonesian military) after a video of the incident went viral on social media.

The Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras), one of the organisations in the coalition, said that the torture case is not just an illegal act.

Jakarta – Amnesty International Indonesia is calling for an evaluation of the placement of TNI (Indonesian military) in Papua after a video of a Papuan man being tortured by several soldiers at the Gome Post in Puncak Regency, Central Papua, went viral on social media.

"This incident was a [case of] cruel and inhuman torture that really damages our sense of justice. It tramples over humanitarian values that are just and civilised. To the families of the victim, we expressed our deep sorrow", said Amnesty International Executive Director Usman Hamid in his statement on Saturday March 23.
