Man: Still going ahead with it huh Mr?
Writing on beds reads: Candidate regional head, election organiser, election observer
The government’s determination to push ahead with the 2020 simultaneous regional elections on December 9 in the face of widespread public opposition and advice from health experts that it risks a new wave of Covid-19 cases is already starting to take its toll.
At least 63 candidate pairs have tested positive for corona virus – one of which in North Sumatra died from the disease – and at least three General Election Commission officials have contracted Covid-19.
Furthermore, a total of 243 prospective candidates were found to have violated health protocols earlier this month.
The election was initially scheduled on September 23, but was postponed to December 9 due to the coronavirus outbreak. The upcoming election will elect nine governors, 37 mayors and 224 district heads.
