Man: Just use an AI judge Mr, who knows it could be bribe free!
Responding to a series of high-profile cases where judges have been bribed to acquit defendants, the Supreme Court (MA) has announced it will implement a Smart Panel for the automated appointment of judges using a robot or artificial intelligence (AI) system.
Supreme Court spokesperson Yanto said that this would be implemented to prevent the potential for "games" or bribery in the legal process. "The MA will immediately implement the app for appointing panels of judges robotically at the first level and appeals courts", he said on Monday April 4.
He added that the automated system has already been applied for the appointment of judges at the Supreme Court while at the district and high court levels it is still in process.
"At the MA it's already started, yes, the Smart Panel has already started. So the machine is the one that decides. But, it turns out from a Rapim [leadership meeting] it will be carried out throughout Indonesia through robots in the Smart Panel", he added.
This implementation of the Smart Panel is because the performance of judges continues to be in the spotlight due to the large number of bribery cases. Recently there were two bribery cases involving judges, one example being the case of Ronald Tannur's acquittal which ensnared Surabaya District Court judges Erintuah Damanik, Heru Hanindyo and Mangapul.
Most recently, four judges have also been implicated in alleged bribery in a cooking oil corruption case involving three corporations at the Central Jakarta District Court.
