Makassar court sentences 4 Papuan treason defendants to 7 months in prison

Makassar – A panel of judges at the Makassar District Court in South Sulawesi has sentenced four defendants from the pro-independence group the Federal State of the Republic of West Papua (NFRPB) to seven months in prison over a treason case in Papua.

The defendants, Maksi Sangkek, Abraham Goram Gaman, Piter Robaha and Nikson May (Nikson Mai) were tried in turns with the verdicts read out by presiding judge Henry Dunant Manuhua.
House, government urged to stop discussing flawed Criminal Procedural Code Bill

Jakarta – The Civil Society Coalition for Criminal Procedure Code Reform believes the deliberations on the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RUU KUHAP) to be both formally and materially flawed.

The coalition is asking President Prabowo Subianto and the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) to postpone deliberations on the bill.

Today, Thursday November 13, Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR), along with the government through the Ministry of Law and the Ministry of State Secretariat, completed deliberations on the Draft Criminal Procedure Code (RUU KUHAP) and made a Level I decision in just two days.

This means the RUU KUHAP is just one step away from being ratified and is only awaiting a plenary session that is scheduled for next week.

Guntur stated that Tjiptaning's statement about victims of the 1965-66 massacre is a historical fact recorded in official reports and therefore should not have been reported to the police.
