Jessi Carina, Jakarta – Hundreds of protesters from the Labour Party and the Confederation of the All-Indonesian Workers Union (KSPSI) held a demonstration in front of the United Nations office at the Thamrin Tower in Central Jakarta on Friday October 27.

The protesters began arriving at around 9.30 am. At around 10.30 am, demonstrators standing on the command vehicle began directing the protesters to stand up and tighten their ranks.

The demonstrators, who spilled over onto half of the road, brought a banner with the message, "Stop Israeli-Palestine war. Free Palestine".

They also brought various kinds of paraphernalia such as Labour Party and Palestine flags, and wore symbols resembling the Palestinian flag.

The Labour Party and the KSPSI demanded that the UN stop the war between Israel and Palestine. They also demanded that the UN recognise Palestinian independence.

"All problems must be resolved at the negotiating table by following the decision of the UN resolution on Palestinian independence. The Labour Party supports Palestinian independence without having to go through a war", said Labour Party President Said Iqbal.

Meanwhile traffic flow near the rally became obstructed and a number of police officers were seen assisting in directing the traffic flow.
