Eko Susanto, Magelang – The Magelang City District Police have arrested two Tidar University (Untidar) students and a Ruang Juang (Struggle Space) activist. They will be held for 20 days in the first phase of the investigation.
The two Untidar students are Muhammad Azhar Fauzan, a 2021 animal husbandry student from the Faculty of Agriculture and Purnomo Yogi Antoro, a 2021 communication science student from the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (Fisipol) and the founder of Aktuaslis.id.
Ruang Juang activist Enrille Championy Geniosa meanwhile is an Untidar Fisipol alumnus.
The three were arrested on Monday December 15 at three different locations. Following their arrest, they underwent questioning from Monday afternoon until the early hours of Tuesday December 16.
During the questioning, the three suspects were accompanied by members of the Yogyakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jogja).
"The material investigation concerns posters calling for a consolidation of the August protests. That's what they're investigating, who made them and who posted them. The police are trying to establish that the posters caused people to gather leading to riots", said Royan Juliazka Candrajaya from LBH Jogja when contacted by Detik Jateng on Tuesday.
"Aside from this, there are also links between organisations in Magelang. Youth and civil society organizations in Magelang are being investigated to determine their roles in Magelang. For example, whether they hold discussions on a daily basis or also carry out actions. So, that's what was dug into last night", add Candrajaya.
The investigation, said Candrajaya, began on Monday afternoon and lasted until Tuesday morning. "The investigation began at 5 pm WIB [West Indonesian Time] (yesterday) and concluded at 5 am WIB. Today there is more information they want to dig into", added Candrajaya.
After being questioned, Candrajaya said, the three were detained. "The (arrest warrant) was issued last night and they were detained at around 3 am WIB. They are being held for the next 20 days", said Candrajaya.
When contacted separately, the head of the criminal investigation unit of the Magelang City District Police, First Inspector Iwan Kristiana confirmed the detention of the three. "The three individuals have been detained", Kristiana said briefly.
As previously reported, two Untidar students and one activist were arrested by the Magelang City District Police at three different locations on Monday afternoon.
