Surabaya – Dozens of naked men were arrested by police at a hotel in Surabaya, East Java. They were suspected of participating in a gay sex party held behind closed doors in one of the hotel rooms.

Surabaya Metropolitan District Police (Polrestabes) Sat Samapta Unit Head Assistant Superintendent Erika stated that the raid was carried out by a joint team from the Samapta Unit, the Wonokromo Sectoral Police (Polsek) along with the Criminal and Detectives Unit (Satreskrim) after receiving a report from the public.

"A joint team from the Sat Samapta, the Wonokromo Polsek, along with the Surabaya Polrestabes Satreskrim secured a same-sex sex party in one of the rooms at the Midtown Hotel in Surabaya", said Erika in Surabaya on Sunday October 19.

Erika stated that the raid was carried out early Sunday morning at around 1 am local time after officers received reports from residents who suspected unusual activity on a particular floor of the hotel.

Upon receiving the report, police immediately went to the location to investigate. On arrival at the hotel, officers coordinated with management before visiting the room in question.

When the door was opened, officers found dozens of naked men in one room in a state that indicated a sex party was taking place.

"Based on the initial investigation, we have arrested 34 people, including participants and event organisers. They are suspected of violating moral norms", he said.

Police then took all the men to the Surabaya Metropolitan District Police Headquarters (Mapolrestabes) for further questioning. Evidence including contraceptives, cell phones and several electronic devices were also secured from the scene.

Officers are currently investigating the motives, communication networks and parties who played a role in organising the event. "We are still looking into the case. If any criminal elements are found, we will process them according to applicable law", he asserted.

He explained that the raid was part of the police's efforts to maintain public order and uphold moral norms in society. He noted that activities of this kind not only disturb local residents but also have the potential to have negative social and moral impacts.

The police also plan to strengthen patrols and surveillance in several vulnerable areas including hotels and guesthouses frequently used for suspicious activities. Coordination with hotel management will also be enhanced for the early detection of the misuse of facilities.

"We appeal to the public to report any suspicious or illegal activity immediately", he concluded. (frd/gil)
