Praditya Fauzi Rahman, Surabaya – A number of students who are members of the East Java Nusantara Student Executive Council (BEM) are pressing for the resolution to the case involving the former Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Ardiansyah at the Attorney General's Office (AGO).
They said they were worried that "Febrie's seeds" would emerge within the East Java (Jatim) Chief Public Prosecutor's (Kejati).
BEM Nusantara East Java coordinator Muhammad Zainur said these concerns arose because of the case that has ensnared the former Jampidsus. Therefore, his they are asking the East Java Prosecutor's Office to prioritise transparency and accountability.
"I am also worried if there are seeds like Febrie Ardiansyah. So I'm also urging the East Java Chief Prosecutor's Office for transparency to be issued and that accountability and responsivity exist here", said Zainur when met by Detik Jatim at the location of the action on Tuesday July 21.
Zainur admitted that their action had not yet produced any results even though the demonstrators met and were mediated by the East Java Prosecutor's Office Legal Information Section Chief, Adnan. If their demands do not receive a response, the students plan to hold another demonstration with more protesters.
"We will hold a similar action with two or three times the number of protesters to press for this matter. Maybe today we were still [able] to bring 100 people because the campus is still in the period of admitting new students and is still on holiday. But God willing on the next occasion we will bring a larger crowd to urge and speak out even louder", he said.
Earlier, Zainur together with a number of students and the Madas social organisation (Madura migrants group) asked the AGO to arrest and prosecute Ardiansyah. According to Zainur, they took up 5+1 or five plus one demands .
The six demands include pushing for the detention and trial of Ardiansyah, rejecting the formation of Team 9 at the AGO, which is considered to be a conflict of interest, and asking the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to take over the case because it is feared that it will drag on and not be completed within 7x24 hours.
Apart from that, they also urged the authorities to uncover alleged assets hidden through a safe house scheme in the crime of money laundering (TPPU), condemned parties who claim to be "Palace people" or "The President's people", and asked for the Asset Confiscation Bill to be passed immediately.
During this action, the protesters also brought bouquets of flowers with written condolences. According to Zainur, the wreaths of flowers were a symbol of students' concern about the state of law enforcement in Indonesia which is considered unjust.
"It can be seen that there is a double standard. There are people who are detained and there are people who are not detained in this case", said the 10th semester student majoring in civil engineering at Madiun Merdeka University. (uh/huh)
