July 1 marks the 80th commemoration of Bhayangkara Day (National Police Day) as well as the 28th anniversary of the National Police (Polri) reform mandate as one of the demands of the reformasi 1998 movement – the political reform movement that began in 1998.

Bhayangkara Day should be a momentum to mark the realisation of the commitment to police reform which would give birth to a civil police institution that is increasingly professional, democratic and upholds human rights.

Jakarta – Labour Party Secretary General Ferri Nuzarli and around 1.3 million members and administrators of the Indonesian People's Organization (ORI) – a political wing of the Confederation of the All Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPSI) led by Andi Gani Nena Wea – have resigned from the party.

Nuzarli Ferri claimed that there were differences of opinion regarding the direction of the party's struggle. The decision by Ferri and his members and administrators to leave did not come long after Labour Party President Said Iqbal entered the circles of power.
