Papuan students in Makassar rally to demand release of 4 treason defendants

Eskop Wisabla, Makassar – The University and High School Student Papua People's Solidarity Forum/Papuan People's Concern (FSPM-PRP) in Makassar city, South Sulawesi, held a protest action as support in the ongoing treason trial of four Papuan political prisoners, Abraham Goram Gaman, Piter Robaha, Nixon Maay and Maksi Sangkek, which was held in front of the Makassar District Court.

Action Coordinator Atlak Wandikbo stated, "We believe the legal proceedings against the four political prisoners are rife with criminalisation and the silencing of the peaceful political struggle of the Papuan people...

Kiki Safitri, Danu Damarjati, Jakarta – The Deputy Head of the National Nutrition Agency (BGN), Nanik Sudaryati Deyang, has promised to provide incentives for organisers of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (MBG) in regions who succeed in creating positive and viral content about the MBG program on social media.

"As a form of appreciation for the creativity of regional organisers, there is a personal incentive of 5 million rupiah [US$3] for regional content that goes viral on social media", said Deyang in an official statement on Tuesday October 28.
Historians, activists reject plan to name Suharto national hero

Jakarta – A number of historians and civil society groups have criticised the proposal that the late 2nd President of the Republic of Indonesia, Suharto, be awarded the title of national hero.

University of Gaja Mada (UGM) historian Sri Margana said that a national hero, according to the legal definition, must not have any moral or political defects during their life. According to Margana, this is not the first time that the name of the New Order (Orba) ruler has been proposed as a national hero, and it was rejected for that reason.
