Activist faces 1 year in prison for alleged incitement during August protests

Jakarta – Former ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) employee Laras Faizati Khairunnisa, who is facing a one-year prison sentence for allegedly inciting the August protests, insists she has not committed a crime.

She then compared the one-year sentence demanded by the public prosecutor (JPU) to the police officers who ran over and killed online motorcycle taxi driver Affan Kurniawan during a protest near the House of Representatives (DPR) in August who have still not yet been tried to this day.

They arrived together with the Youth Movement Against Criminalisation (Gerakan Muda Lawan Kriminalisasi, GMLK) at the Komnas HAM offices in Central Jakarta on Monday December 22 carrying a single red rose.
