Fersianus Waku, Jakarta – Hundreds of people held a demonstration in front of the Egyptian Embassy located on Jalan Teuku Umar in the Menteng suburb of Central Jakarta on Tuesday June17. They were urging the Egyptian government to open access to the Rafah border so that humanitarian aid for Gaza can be distributed immediately.

Based on Tribunnews.com observations, the demonstrators began to throng into the area in front of the Egyptian Embassy at 3 pm. Despite the rain that showered the Menteng area, the participants stood their ground wearing raincoats and carrying Palestinian flags as a symbol of solidarity.

Through speeches and the posters that they brought, they called on Egypt to participate in efforts to save civilians in Palestine. From the top of the command car, a speaker also repeatedly yelled out "Free, Free Palestine" which were immediately followed by the action participants.

The participants brought a number of posters with message of solidarity such as "independence is the right of all nations, including Palestine" and "Zionists out of Palestine!".

Police officers could be seen standing guard around the location. As of this article being posted, the demonstration was still continuing in front of the Egyptian Embassy.
