Melvina Tionardus, Mahar Prastiwi – The University of Indonesia (UI) Student Community Association (IKM) held an action titled "Weekend of Resistance" on Saturday March 7 as a form of rejection of Indonesia's participation in the Board of Peace (BoP) formed by the United States.

This activity was announced via an Instagram posting on the @bemui_official account titled "CALL TO ACTION #WEEKENDOFRESISTANCE: REJECT THE BOARD OF PEACE, DOWN THE NEW IMPERIALISM!".

The action was held at the Horse Statue in Central Jakarta at 3 pm to voice aspirations, assert positions and demand that the government be responsible for taking sides against the colonialists which are not in accordance with the 1945 Constitution as well as revoking Indonesia's membership of the BoP.

The IKM UI stated that peace without justice is structured oppression.

As has been reported, the BoP was formed by President Donald Trump on the grounds of realising world peace with the conflict in Gaza, and with Palestine as the first goal. Palestine however is not involved in the BoP at all.

Silencing critical voices, taking away people's rights

"Today, we are witnessing the birth of a new imperialism that hides behind the cloak of humanity. Don't be fooled by sweet dictions, the Board of Peace is just an extension of global interests that want to dictate our domestic policies", said the IKM UI.

The IKM UI warned that under the pretext of maintaining peace, the BoP is actually silencing critical voices, taking away people's rights and paving the way for transnational corporate monopolies.

Since last week, the US has joined Israel in attacking Iran with missiles and other deadly weapons.

"The peace they offer is a peace that kills, a peace that kills reason and resistance. We don't need peace directed by invaders and criminals", said the IKM UI.

BEM UI Alliance writes to Prabowo

Previously, on Wednesday March 4, the UI Student Alliance sent a letter to President Prabowo Subianto via the Ministry of State Secretariat office in Gambir, Central Jakarta.

The letter contained four demands, namely:

1. Urging the President of the Republic of Indonesia to stop being involved in the deployment of International Stabilisation Force (ISF) troops in Gaza which are could cause losses in the form of a confrontation with and the demilitarisation of Palestinian freedom fighters, as well as being a performative mediator in the US-Israel attacks on Iran, amidst conditions in the country that are not good.

2. Urging and calling in the pledge made by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, which was delivered on February 3-4, 2026, that Indonesia will withdraw from the BoP if it is proven that it is not in line with Palestinian independence. The latest situation has proven that the dynamics in the BoP and ISF are not in favour of Palestine and are detrimental to Indonesia's position.

3. Urging the President of the Republic of Indonesia and his staff to revise the statement by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs which previously reduced the Israeli-US attacks on Iran to a regret over the failure of negotiations, to become a firm criticism and condemnation of Israel and the US, and because the attack contradicts the basic principles of the formation of the BoP.

4. Issuing an ultimatum to the President of the Republic of Indonesia and his staff to immediately withdraw from the proposed position of ISF deputy commander and from the membership of the BoP, and fulfill these four demands within 3x24 hours, before the wrath of the Indonesian people descends upon them.
