Syakirun Niam, Jakarta – The Indonesian immigration office will deport foreign nationals (WNA) who hold protest actions against the G20 Summit which will be held in Bali next week.

Ministry of Justice and Human Rights Acting Immigration Director General Widodo Ekatjahjana said that they would act firmly against any foreign nationals considered to be interfering with the international meeting.

"With regard to WNA who hold protest actions, we will immediately deport them for the sake of security and order during the G20 activities", said Ekatjahjana at the Bali Ngurah Rai Airport on Monday evening, November 7, as quoted from an official press release.

Ekatjahjana said that this action would be taken so that the G20 Summit can proceed smoothly. However firm actions against protests, he said, would be carried out in a humanitarian manner.

He gave the example of how on Monday the Jember Class I Immigration Office in East Java secured a Japanese foreign national aged 57 with the initials TS.

According to Ekatjahjana the Japanese national was holding a protest by unfurling a banner on Jalan Yos Sudarso in Banyuwangi, East Java. He believes that the actions taken by the local immigration office were a preventative and persuasive measure.

"I have already contacted the Japanese Consulate General in Surabaya in relation to the Japanese national who demonstrated there", said Ekatjahjana.

He revealed that the Japanese national had already admitted their guilt and accepted the punishment handed down, namely deportation.

Ekatjahjana said that the immigration office has a clear position on such matters and will continue to pursue its security function and at the same time provide services.

"If there are violations by foreigners then we will continue to act firmly in accordance with prevailing regulations", he said.

Indonesia will be the host for the G20 Summit which will take place on November 15-16 in Bali.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo says that 17 heads of state have already confirmed their attendance at the meeting, including US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

"As of today there are 17 heads of state, government heads that will attend", said Widodo at the Ngurah Rai Great Forest Park in the Balinese provincial capital of Denpasar on Tuesday November 8, as quoted from the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel.
