Hafizh Wahyu Darmawan, Akhdi Martin Pratama, Jakarta – A number of protesters from the Student Movement with the People (Gemarak) began filing the area in front gate to the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday afternoon August 21.

Kompas.com observed that the crowd began arriving at the location at around 4 pm. A command vehicle was also seen arriving at the site, along with several students wearing their alma mater uniforms.

KKJ Statement – August 19, 2025

The Committee for the Safety of Journalists (KKJ) strongly condemns the Israeli military's continued premeditated killing of journalists in Gaza. The KKJ's stance was issued in response to the planned and flagrant murder of members of the Al Jazeera reporting team in Gaza.

On Sunday August 18, an Israeli missile hit a tent belonging to the Al Jazeera team which was located in front of the main gate to the Al Shifa Hospital and killed seven people, including influential journalist Anas Al Sharif who was still wearing a press vest at the time.

Surabaya  – Hundreds of students from various campuses in Surabaya held another demonstration in front of the East Java Regional House of Representative (DPRD) building on Tuesday August 19. During the rally they flew the Jolly Roger flag from the Japanese anime One Piece and called themselves the Nakama Action Movement.

Action Coordinator M Rizqi Senja Virawan, who is also the University of Airlangga Student Executive Council (BEM) Coordinating Minister for the Movement, said that during the action the students brought up several major issues related to Indonesian democracy and the President Prabowo Subianto administration.

Singgih Wiryono, Ardito Ramadhan, Jakarta – The National Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) has revealed that reports of violence against women throughout 2024 increased compared to the previous year.

"Throughout January to December 2024, 35,533 reports of violence against women were recorded, a 2.4 percent increase from the previous year", said Komnas Perempuan Deputy Chairperson Dahlia Madanih during in a press conference at the Royal Kuningan Hotel in Jakarta on Tuesday August 19.
