Arnold Belau, Jayapura – The Timika regional chairperson of the West Papua National Committee (KNPB), Steven Itlay, who was reportedly arrested by police was released at 12 midnight local time on February 4.

Jakarta – A student demonstration held near the Arjuna Wijaya Horse Statue in Central Jakarta has ended in chaos with three students being arrested, one of which was assaulted by police.

Police chased down the students after the chaos broke out on Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan. The reason for the chaos is not yet known.

Dhias Suwandi – Eight youths have been declared suspects on charges of makar (treason, subversion, rebellion) for flying the Morning Star flag at the Cenderawasih Sports Centre in Jayapura city, Papua, on Wednesday December 1.

The Morning Star is a symbol used as a flag by the Free Papua Organisation (OPM).

Dhias Suwandi, Jayapura – Police have arrested seven youths – along with an eighth who recorded the action – who raised the Morning Star flag on the grounds of the Cenderawasih Sports Centre (GOR) in Jayapura city on Wednesday December 1.

The Cenderawasih Sports Centre is located next the Papua regional police headquarters.

Maria Baru, Sorong – Frater Anton Syufi from the Order of Saint Augustine (OSA) was arrested by the Jayapura city district police on Sunday October 3 for wearing a Morning Star (BK) independence flag T-shirt while watching a soccer match between the Papua and East Nusa Tenggara National Games teams at the Mandala Stadium in Jayapura, Papua.

Ihsanuddin, Jakarta – The police forcibly broke up a protest action marking the 1962 Rome Agreement in front of the United States Embassy in Central Jakarta on the afternoon of Thursday September 30 and arrested 17 Papuan activists.
