Jakarta – Labour Party President Said Iqbal has declared the Labour Party's support for the incoming administration of president-elect Prabowo Subianto and vice president-elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who will be inaugurated in October.
He made the declaration at the Labour Party's 3rd anniversary event titled Commemorating Three Years of the Awakening of the Working Class at the Senayan Sports Stadium in Jakarta on Wednesday September 18.
"The Labour Party supports Pak [Mr] Prabowo Subianto's government as the elected president of Indonesia", said Iqbal.
Said also asked that Prabowo fulfil six hopes. The first request was a review of the Omnibus Law on Job Creation (Cipta Kerja), particularly the cluster of articles on labour. The second request was for the government to set a decent wage for workers.
The third request was for the elimination of the outsourcing work system and the fourth request was to carry out agrarian reform and ensure food sovereignty.
"[We] don't want imports during the harvest season and return farmers' land that has been grabbed by corporations", said Iqbal.
The Labour Party also requested that honorary teachers and staff be appointment as civil servants and the final request was for the provision of free education. "Especially up to university or free until people enter college", he said.
The Labour Party did not support any of the three presidential and vice-presidential tickets in the February 2024 presidential election. It was however able to participate in the legislative elections – which were held on the same day – and garnered a total of 972,910 votes or 0.64 percent of the national vote. (rzr/DAL)
