Haryanti Puspa Sari, Danu Damarjati, Jakarta – Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) has criticised the trend of verdicts in criminal cases of corruption and the confiscation of assets carried out by the government against corruptors in the last year.

ICW's Legal and Investment Division Head Wana Alamsyah said that over the last year, the sentences handed down against corruptors have been very light, namely around three to four years in prison.

"In corporate punishment there has also been no serious commitment (to eradicating corruption), the average sentence given to corruptors is only around three to four years", said Alamsyah at a 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) commemoration event in Central Jakarta on Tuesday December 9.

Alamsyah also touched on the confiscation of assets carried out by the government in corruption cases. He said that based on ICW's research, the government only confiscated 4 percent of assets in corruption cases out of total state losses of 300 trillion rupiah.

"Research conducted by ICW shows that the confiscation of assets carried out by the government is only 4 percent of the total state losses of around 300 trillion rupiah carried out by corruptors", he said.

President's policy on corruption regretted

Finally, Alamsyah said he regretted President Prabowo Subianto's attitude in providing rehabilitation, amnesty and abolition in corruption cases.

"This represents a violation of efforts to eradicate corruption that has been built since 1998 when [former president] Suharto was overthrown", he said.
