Jakarta – The Indonesian Forum for the Environmental (Walhi) has recorded that 8,644 hotspots have been detected throughout the West Kalimantan region (Kalbar) throughout May to the end of July 2025, mostly in areas where there are palm oil and industrial plantations.

"Most of the hotspots were found inside the concession area of palm oil plantations and industrial plantations, which indicate corporate involvement in forest and land fires (Karhutla) this year", said Walhi West Kalimantan justice and reform division head Andre Illu on Wednesday July 30.

Jayapura – Dozens of protester from the Justice Front for Tobias Silak, consisting of the Cipayung Youth and Social Organisation (OKP Cipayung), movement activists, community members and the victim's family, held a long-march starting at 8.40 am from the Cross Tower to the Wamena District Court building while giving speeches and shouting for justice for the late Tobias Silak.

The action was held to support the trial hearing the case of the shooting of Tobias Silak and Naro Dapla on August 20, 2024, which was held on Monday July 28 with the agenda of examining witnesses by the public prosecutor (JPU) at the Wamena District Court (PN) in Jayawijaya regency, Papua Highlands province.

"The BPS's (National Statistics Agency) statement that said the poverty rate in Indonesia in June 2025 has declined compared with the previous year was bias, it does not reflect the reality in the field, and is more political [in nature]", the KSP-PB wrote in a press release on Tuesday July 29.
