Advocacy group slams military trial into Andrie Yunus acid attack as a farce

Jakarta – The Advocacy Team for Democracy (TAUD) says that the trial hearing a case against four Indonesian Military (TNI) soldiers over their involvement in an acid attack on Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras) Deputy Coordinator Andrie Yunus reinforces the view that military justice is full of theatre.

TAUD made this statement after the Jakarta II-08 Military Court heard testimony from five witnesses from within the TNI during a hearing on Wednesday May 6.
LBH Jakarta finds violations during arrest of 101 protesters on May Day

Ruby Rachmadina, Tri Susanto Setiawan, Jakarta – The Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta) has stated that 51 people who were detained during an International Labour Day (May Day) protest in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) building in Jakarta on Friday May 1 have now been sent home.

LBH Jakarta Public Attorney Nabil Hafizhurrahman said the scores of people were part of the 101 previously detained by the Jakarta Metropolitan Regional Police (Polda Metro Jaya).
Amnesty rejects government plan to determine who is a rights defender

Djibril Muhammad, Jakarta – Amnesty International Indonesia is urging the government to cancel plans to form a team of assessors to determine the status of human rights defenders. This policy is considered to have the potential to limit civil space and is contrary to basic human rights principles.

Amnesty International Indonesia Deputy Director Wirya Adiwena believes that the state does not have the moral or legal authority to determine who has the right to be called a human rights defender.
KNPB commemorates 63 years since Papua annexed by Indonesia

The commemoration was held by the KNPB Secretariat at the Waena III State Housing Company (Perumnas) in Yabansai Village, Heram district, Jayapura city, Papua, on Friday May 1.
