Medan – A Kamisan (Thursday) action held by a civil society group in the North Sumatra provincial capital of Medan was forcibly broken up by plan clothed police officers on Thursday July 7.

Vitorio Mantalean, Jakarta – The Papua Legal Aid Foundation (LBH) says that as of Friday evening, June 3, at least 20 people had been injured as a result of police violence in dealing with protest actions against the creation of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua and West Papua provinces.

Sorong Maichel (contributor), Sorong – Police were forced to break up a demonstration opposing the creation of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua which was held at the Sorong city Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) office in Sorong, West Papua, on Friday afternoon, June 3.

Jakarta – Two students were reportedly injured today when they were blocked by police during a long-march in the provincial capital of Jayapura opposing new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua. The police meanwhile have denied this.

Jakarta – The Majene district police in West Sulawesi have declared four students suspects on charges of taking down the national red-and-white flag during a protest action on the grounds of the local regent's office.

The student protest took place on Monday May 23. Following the demonstration, police questioned nine people.

Jakarta – Papua Legal Aid Foundation (LBH) Director Emanuel Gobay says that demonstrations or protest actions are regulated under Law Number 9/1998 on the Freedom to Convey an Opinion. This includes also, he added, the recent demonstrations criticising plans to create new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua.

Jakarta – The University of Indonesia Student Executive Council (BEM UI) believes that the state has been acting repressively against indigenous Papuans protesting against the creation of new autonomous regions (DOB) in Papua.
